Sacred Heart Christian Academy

Where faith, nature, and academic mastery meet.

Farm and Field Learning

At Sacred Heart Christian Academy, learning extends beyond the classroom. Our farm and field activities give students opportunities to work with their hands, observe the natural world, and develop practical skills through meaningful experiences.

A key part of this program is introducing students to the principles of regenerative agriculture. Rather than simply using the land, regenerative practices focus on caring for and restoring the soil, encouraging biodiversity, and working in harmony with God’s design for creation. Through gardening, composting, responsible animal care, and soil stewardship, students begin to understand how healthy land supports healthy food and thriving communities.

These experiences help children develop responsibility, patience, and a deep respect for the stewardship of God’s creation.

Farm, garden, and nature study activities are incorporated into our weekly rhythm and support our back-to-the-basics approach to education, helping students connect their academic learning with the real world around them.

Nature Study

Students regularly explore the outdoors as part of science learning.

Nature study may include:

  • Observing plants and animals

  • Seasonal changes

  • Weather

  • Insects

  • Soil and ecosystems

Students learn to observe carefully and appreciate the order and beauty of God's creation.

Gardening

Students participate in seasonal gardening activities such as planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting.

Through gardening, children learn:

  • Responsibility

  • Patience

  • Observation

  • Basic plant science

Students also experience the satisfaction of growing food with their own hands.

Agriculture and Livestock

As part of our farm and field learning, Sacred Heart is home to a small herd of miniature Belted Galloway cattle. We are also preparing to add Nubian dairy goats in the spring or summer of 2026 as our agricultural program continues to grow.

Students will have opportunities to observe and participate in age-appropriate farm activities such as feeding and grooming animals, helping with simple chores, and learning the basics of responsible animal care.

Through regular interaction with animals and the rhythms of farm life, students develop a deeper understanding of where food comes from, the stewardship of God’s creation, and the value of meaningful work.
